Kokie privalumai yra būti registruotu bendrijos nariu?
Tai leis jums prisidėti kuriant bendrijos ateitį ir išlaikyti ją aktualią būsimoms kartoms.
Kaip registruotas narys, jūs galite dalyvauti renkant bendrijos vadovus: nariai kiekviename visuotiniame susirinkime balsuoja rinkdami direktorius (valdybos narius) būsimiems metams, ir turi galimybę patys būti išrinkti. Išrinkti direktoriai priima sprendimus dėl bendrijos ir jos fondų veiklos ir valdymo, įskaitant, renka bendrijos prezidentą (-ę), VP, iždininką (-ą) ir sekretorių (-ę).

Visada esame atviri bendruomenės narių iniciatyvoms, pavyzdžiui, Britų Kolumbijos „Žygeivių“ klubas, naujasis „Britų Kolumbijos balsų“ choras ir„Sedula“ tėvų ir vaikų klubas, – tai visos trys bendruomenės savanorių vadovaujamos iniciatyvos. LCBC welcomes all residents of British Columbia who consider themselves Lithuanian by birth, descent or loyalty, or who choose to be supportive of the purposes of the Lithuanian Community of British Columbia. As a non-profit Society incorporated in British Columbia, LCBC is formally composed of registered members and governed by a board of directors acting in accordance with its bylaws. Our events and committees are open to all!
Can I attend the AGM if I’m not a registered member of LCBC?
Of course you can! If you do, you’ll learn more about LCBC and our activities. Attending may help you decide if you’d like to join and participate more actively in guiding LCBC’s future direction.
What are the benefits of being a registered member of the Society?
It allows you to have a role in shaping the future of LCBC and keeping it relevant in a changing world. If you would like to become a member, please follow the directions below.
As a registered member, you can play a more active role in leading or in choosing the leaders of the Society. Members vote at each AGM to elect the directors (board members) for the coming year and can, if they wish, stand for election themselves.
Interested in an active role separately from the board?
We are always open to initiatives from community members! The B.C. Explorers hiking group, the newly formed choir preparing for the North American Lithuanian Song Festival in Cleveland in June 2025, and parents and children’s Sedula club are all volunteer-led initiatives. The Baltic communities in Vancouver warmly invite you to a celebration and concert in honour of the 35thanniversary of the Baltic Way.
When: 4:00PM on Saturday, August 24 (doors open at 3:30PM)
Where: Estonian Church Foundation Hall, 6520 Oak Street, Vancouver
What: Celebratory concert and community dinner to commemorate the peaceful, momentous demonstration that led to our freedom!
The centrepiece of this anniversary event in Vancouver will be a musical performance by the Mägi Ensemble, a professional vocal ensemble from Seattle specialising in the music of the Baltic region. Mägi Ensemble will perform a repertoire of folk and national songs in Estonian, Latvian, and Lithuanian. The performance will be followed by a community dinner featuring a seasonal dish enjoyed in the Baltics and beyond: šašlõkk / šašliks / šašlykai.

At this time, we are pleased to share with you information about our upcoming summer events: a celebration of Statehood Day, with anthem-singing and šaltibarščiai on the beach on July 6th, and the 35thanniversary of the Baltic Way on August 24th. We will also share with you a calendar of events for the remainder of the year.
Please read to the bottom for more information on volunteer opportunities, as well as information about fall registration for Boston Lithuanian School, a well-established diaspora Lithuanian language school with a well-developed program for online learners of all ages.

Statehood Day, anthem-singing and šaltibarščiai on the beach!
On the occasion of Statehood Day in Lithuania, we warmly invite everyone to gather and sing the Lithuanian anthem together and create and enjoy a communal meal of cold beet soup (šaltibarščiai) on the beach!
- Where: Sunset Beach (Look for the Lithuanian flag beside the large wheel).
- When: Saturday, July 6th. Meet at 5:00 p.m., anthem-singing at 5:30 p.m.
Dinner: Šaltibarščiai—delicious cold beet soup.
For two people please bring: 4 boiled eggs, 1 pickle, buttermilk, dill and green onions, some boiled or marinated beets. If you have a large mixing bowl, please bring it, it will be useful!
We will have boiled potatoes for everyone.
If you have folding chairs, please bring them.

The event will feature a community BBQ and a concert from the Mägi Ensemble, a professional vocal ensemble from Seattle that specializes in music from the Baltic region. They will perform songs in Lithuanian, Latvian and Estonian at this tri-community event.
This commemorative event is being co-organized by the Lithuanian Community of British Columbia, The Vancouver Estonian Society, and the Latvian Community in B.C.
Tris mokslo metus sėkmingai užbaigę 11 Britų Kolumbijos Lietuvių Bendruomenės vaikai jau registruojami sekantiems 2024/2025 mokslo metams. BLM (Bostono Lituanistinė Mokykla) yra puiki alternatyva mokytis Lietuviškai kalbėti, rašyti ir skaityti nuotoliniu būdu. BK bendruomenės studentų amžius yra nuo 4 iki 20 metų. Mokslo metai yra nuo Rugsėjo iki Gegužės; mokykla koordinuoja mažas grupes pagal vaikų amžių ir kalbos lygį; studentai mokinasi pagal sudarytą programą iš vadovėlių “Kalbos Žingsniai”. Mokyklos Direktorė Gailutė Urbonaitė-Narkevičienė yra ne tik vadovėlio bet ir žodynų autorė, kuri treniruoja ir tobulina mokytojų kolektyvą. This year on May 4th, our B.C. cohort students and parents held an end-of-school-year celebration in Vancouver to mark the successful completion of the academic year, playing quizzes and games to test their knowledge of Lithuanian language and culture.

Have you heard about the courageous Lithuanian who solo-crossed the Atlantic Ocean in a rowing boat? Covering a staggering 8734 km journey from Europe to the shores of Miami, he accomplished this feat in a mere 120 days.
The Lithuanian Community of British Columbia invites you to witness his extraordinary journey unfold onscreen. Join us for this special screening of the documentary film “Rowing Across the Atlantic” on Saturday, April 20th at the Cinematheque Theatre in downtown Vancouver. Doors will open at 12:30 for socializing; wine and beer will be available for sale at the bar.
This is the tale of one man, one ocean, and an epic journey aboard the rowboat named “Lituanica”, undertaken to commemorate the 90th anniversary of the historic flight of Lithuanian pilots Steponas Darius and Stasys Girėnas across the Atlantic. While it took Aurimas nearly four months to cross the Atlantic, the journey began years earlier, marked by the inception of an idea, the quest for a suitable boat, rigorous physical preparation, psychological discipline, and a strict regimen. Countless hours and days of work culminated in Aurimas embarking on his long-awaited journey on an early Christmas morning in 2022. He steadfastly adhered to the most crucial rule throughout—never stop rowing!

Lietuvos Respublikos ambasada Kanadoje 2024 m. kovo 20 – 21 d. rengia konsulinę misiją Vankuveryje. Ambasados darbuotojai priims šiuos Lietuvos Respublikos piliečių dokumentus:
- prašymus išduoti ar pakeisti pasą ir asmens tapatybės kortelę;
- ilgesniam nei 6 mėnesių laikotarpiui iš Lietuvos išvykusių piliečių gyvenamosios vietos deklaracijas;
- prašymus išduoti asmens grįžimo pažymėjimą;
- pranešimus apie prarastus asmens dokumentus;
- prašymus įtraukti į apskaitą užsienio valstybėje įregistruotus civilinės būklės aktus;
- prašymus pakeisti vardą, pavardę;
- prašymus išduoti konsulines pažymas;
- prašymus dėl dokumentų pareikalavimo iš Lietuvos Respublikos institucijų;
- prašymus dėl Lietuvos Respublikos pilietybės (tvirtins elektroniniu būdu į MIGRIS sistemą įkeltų Lietuvos pilietybės prašymų ir pranešimų apie kitos valstybės pilietybės įgijimą dokumentų autentiškumą).
Priėmimai konsulinės misijos Vankuveryje metu vyks kovo 20 – 21 d. Šv. Petro estų liuteronų bažnyčios (St. Peter’s Estonian Lutheran Church) patalpose, adresu 6520 Oak St, Vancouver, BC V6P 3Z2. Asmenys bus priimami nuo 8:30 iki 17:30 val.
Konsulinės misijos metu bus aptarnaujami tik iš anksto užsiregistravę ir registracijos patvirtinimą gavę asmenys. Registracija į priėmimą vyksta elektroninės registracijos sistemoje iki kovo 17 d. The Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Canada will conduct a consular mission in Vancouver, British Columbia, on 20 – 21 March 2024. Embassy officers will accept the following documents of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania:
- requests to issue or change a passport and identity card;
• residence declarations of citizens who have left Lithuania for a period longer than 6 months;
• requests for issuing a certificate of return of a person;
• reports on lost personal documents;
• requests to account acts of civil status registered in a foreign country;
• requests to change the name, surname;
• records confirming applications for the issuance of a civil status certificate;
• requests for issuing consular certificates;
The consular mission will be held at St. Peter’s Estonian Lutheran Church, 6520 Oak St, Vancouver, BC V6P 3Z2. Consular services will be provided from 8:30 am to 1 pm and from 2 pm to 5:30 p.m. Only persons who have pre-registered and received confirmation of registration will be served during the consular mission. Registration for admission takes place online.
When registering, please indicate the desired consular service, the desired reception time, the personal code of the person who needs to receive the consular service, and your phone number.
During consular missions, the fee for consular services is increased by 50%. (consular fee amounts are published here). Only debit/credit card payments will be accepted during the mission.

The Lithuanian Community of British Columbia and Klubas Sedula invite everyone to come celebrate Užgavėnės (Shrove Tuesday) – join us for waffle-making, pancake tasting and creating colourful masks in the waffle and mask-making workshops! Then, together we will dance, stomp and drive away the winter. Whether you are 5 or 95, bring your apron and join in the fun and merriment!! If you prefer eating rather than making pancakes, there will be enough for tasting with tea and coffee for one and all!!

2023 metų apžvalga
2023 metai išsiskyrė daug ir įdomių renginių – sunku būtų viską čia sutalpinti! Daugiau konkrečių renginių aprašymų su nuotraukomis galite pamatyti LCBC tinklalapyje ir „Facebook“ puslapyje.
Vasario 19 d. šventėme Užgavėnes. Tai buvo šeimoms skirtas renginys, vykęs Estijos salėje su kaukių gamyba, šokiais ir blynų vaišėmis. Kovo 11 d.– Lietuvos Nepriklausomybės atkūrimo dienos – proga, Lietuvos vėliavos spalvomis buvo apšviesti Burrard tiltas ir Vankuverio miesto savivaldybė, o po savaitės buvo surengtas dokumentinio filmo „Kernagis“ peržiūros vakaras.
Balandžio mėnesį vyko Margučių šventė, o gegužės 7 d. susitikome su ambasadoriumi Dariumi Skusevičiumi neformaliame bendravimo renginyje Vankuverio centre. Birželį surengėme virtualią diskusiją tema „Lietuva užsienio reikalų kontekste“ su Rimu Ališausku, Lietuvos nuolatinės delegacijos prie NATO atstovu gynybos reikalams, ir dr. Serhy Yekelchyku iš Viktorijos universiteto. Renginį moderavo valdybos narys Gene Homel. Taip pat surengėme knygos aptarimo renginį su vietinėmis lietuvių kalbos vertėjomis Maryte Račys ir Rachel Mines.
Mūsų kasmetinę Joninių (Jaanipäev) šventę vėl šventėme kartu su Estijos bendruomene jų nuostabioje sodyboje, esančioje Mission, birželio 24 d. Liepos mėnesio pradžioje surengėme susitikimą su ambasadoriumi D. Skusevičiumi ir Seimo atstovais, kurie lankėsi Vankuveryje OSCE Parlamento Asamblėjos metu. Liepos 6-ąją, antrus metus iš eilės, minėdami Mindaugo Karūnavimo dieną, susirinkę giedojome Lietuvos himną ir gaminome šaltibarščius „Sunset“ paplūdimyje, o rugpjūčio 20 d., kartu su mūsų Baltijos ir Rytų Europos bendruomenės partneriais minėjome Juodojo kaspinio dieną Vankuveryje.
Rugsėjo 16 d. mes dalyvavome nepamirštamame muzikos ikonos Andriaus Mamontovo koncerte, o po jo kartu su atlikėju susitikome su Kanados lietuvių bendruomenės lyderiais ir garbingais svečiais, atvykusiais į Vankuverį šio renginio proga.
Spalio 22 d. minėjome Lietuvos žydų genocido dieną, siekdami nepamiršti šių liūdnų praeities įvykių ir pagerbti Vilniaus žydų bendruomenę Lietuvos sostinės 700-mečio proga.
Galiausiai, lapkričio 25 d. mes palydėjome šiuos reikšmingus metus susitikę šventinėje bendruomenės Kalėdų vakarienėje, stebėdami Seatlo lietuvių tautinių šokių grupės „Lietutis“ pasirodymą!
Nuostabūs lauko renginiai ir žygiai („Britų Kolumbijos Žygeiviai“), vaikams ir šeimoms skirti renginiai (klubas „Sedula“) taip pat vyko ištisus metus. Apsilankykite ir prisijunkite prie šių „Facebook“ grupių norėdami gauti daugiau informacijos!
2023 Year in Review
2023 boasted a full and exciting calendar of events – too many to describe here! You can see details (and photos) on the LCBC website and Facebook page.
We celebrated Užgavėnės on February 19 with a family event at the Estonian hall with mask-making, dancing, and pancakes. To commemorate the restoration of Lithuanian Independence on March 11, the colours of the Lithuanian flag were displayed on Burrard Bridge and Vancouver City Hall, followed a week later by a film night featuring the documentary “Kernagis.”
April brought an Easter egg decorating event, and on May 7, we met with Ambassador Darius Skusevičius for an informal meet and greet in downtown Vancouver. In June we hosted a virtual panel discussion called “Lithuania in the Context of Foreign Affairs” with Rimas Ališauskas, Deputy Defence Adviser at Lithuania’s permanent delegation to NATO, and Dr. Serhy Yekelchyk of the University of Victoria moderated by our own Gene Homel. We also hosted a book talk with local Lithuanian translators Marytė Račys and Rachel Mines.
Our annual celebration of Joninės (Jaanipäev) was once again shared with the Estonian Community on their scenic property in Mission on June 24. In early July we hosted a meeting with Ambassador Skusevičius and Seimas representatives who were in Vancouver for the OSCE Parliamentary Assembly. For the second year in a row, we made šaltibarščiai and sang our anthem on Sunset Beach on July 6 to mark Coronation Day, while on August 20, together with our Baltic and Eastern European community partners, we commemorated Black Ribbon Day in downtown Vancouver.
September 16 brought us an unforgettable concert with music icon Andrius Mamontovas, followed by a meeting with Canadian Lithuanian Community leaders and honoured guests in Vancouver for the concert.
On October 22, we commemorated the National Memorial Day for the Genocide of Lithuanian Jews, a sombre event honouring the Jewish community of Vilnius on the 700th anniversary of Lithuania’s capital.
Finally, on November 25, we celebrated a meaningful year with a cheerful (and tasty!) community Christmas dinner featuring a performance by Seattle’s Lithuanian folk-dance group “Lietutis!”

We are inviting you to register for voting by mail in the Referendum to Retain Citizenship.
How does voting by mail take place?
- You should register for voting as soon as possible, at least by 2024-04-15 (registration in Canada will end on 2024-04-26) at www.rinkejopuslapis.lt
- The embassy will send you ballot papers and information related in advance to your indicated address.
- You will send back filled in ballot papers to the embassy (using prepacked envelope) by the due date so that they are received on time and your vote is counted.

Voting abroad
All citizens of the Republic of Lithuania residing or temporarily staying abroad, aged 18 or over, who have the right to vote, are entitled and invited to vote in the elections and referendum on the retention of citizenship to be held in May, June and October 2024.
Elections and referendums – which ones and when?
On 12 May, Presidential elections, and a compulsory referendum on the retention of citizenship will be held. Voters who have registered to vote in the Presidential elections will be deemed to have registered for the referendum.
A possible re-vote in the Presidential elections will take place on 26 May.
European Parliament elections are held on 9 June.
On 13 October, regular elections to the Seimas are scheduled, and on 27 October – a possible re-vote in the single-mandate constituency of the Lithuanian World Parliament.
Is it necessary to register in advance to vote abroad?
Yes. All voters who intend to vote abroad by post or in person will need to register in the online registration system: https://www.rinkejopuslapis.lt. You will need to re-register, even if you were previously on the electoral roll abroad. The electronic registration system allows voters who wish to vote abroad to register to vote and be included on the electoral roll of the relevant diplomatic mission or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania within a few minutes. You can register for all elections and referendums at once or for a selection of elections (e.g. if you are temporarily away from Lithuania or if you intend to change your place of residence).
What if I don’t have a valid passport or ID card?
If you have not lost your citizenship of the Republic of Lithuania, but do not have a valid identity document, you can register and vote with an expired passport or identity card.
What are the registration data used for?
The personal data provided during voter registration is used only for the purposes of organising the elections: to draw up lists of citizens of the Republic of Lithuania who vote abroad. The processor of personal data is the Central Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania, legal entity code 188607150, address: Gynėjų g. 8, Vilnius, tel.: +370 5 239 6902, e-mail: rinkim@vrk.lt. Personal data are processed by the Chief Electoral Commission of the Republic of Lithuania in the exercise of the public authority functions entrusted to it in accordance with the Election Code of the Republic of Lithuania. Until when can I register to vote abroad?
We advise you to register as early as possible, at least by mid-April, especially if you intend to vote by post. Depending on the specifics of the post office in your country of residence, you may be able to register earlier to ensure that the ballot papers reach you and that the returned ballot papers arrive at the Lithuanian Embassy or Consulate in time.
What if I can’t register?
If you are unable to register, please check that you have entered all your personal details correctly – all the required fields must be ticked as stated in your passport or ID card. How can I vote in person?
In 2024, voting is organised in 52 diplomatic missions and consular posts abroad. Additionally, citizens abroad will be able to vote at the Lithuanian World Centre in Lemont (United States of America) and the Honorary Consulate General of the Republic of Lithuania in Toronto (Canada).
Additional polling stations for 12 May 2024 For the Presidential elections and the referendum on 12 May 2024 on the retention of citizenship, there are polling stations in East London (United Kingdom), Leeds (United Kingdom), Dungannon (United Kingdom), Edinburgh (United Kingdom), Peterborough (United Kingdom), Lisbon (Portuguese Republic) and Tenerife (Kingdom of Spain). The specific addresses of these polling stations will be announced at a later date.
Please note that there are no plans to hold voting at these additional polling stations for the European Parliament elections on 9 June 2024. It is also not yet known whether all these additional polling stations will be open for voting on 13 October 2024. Parliamentary elections are scheduled to take place on 20 October 2018.

What if I live in a country where there is no Lithuanian representation?
In this case, you can vote by post by registering on the electoral roll of the representation that covers your country of residence. For example, Lithuanian citizens living in New Zealand vote on the electoral roll of the Embassy of the Republic of Lithuania in Australia. The list of Lithuanian representations abroad can be found here. Please enter the exact address of your permanent or temporary residence in the foreign country, as this is the address where voting documents will be sent. Be sure to check the requirements for writing the postal address of your place of residence in the foreign country on the relevant websites that provide information about postal services in your country of residence or by visiting the website of the relevant representation.
*The SCC notes that if the voters vote in a country where there is no embassy or consular office of the Republic of Lithuania, the voters themselves have to pay for the return of the voting documents to the embassy or consular office which sent the voting documents. Embassies or consular offices of the Republic of Lithuania shall not be responsible for the reliability of foreign post.
Important information. If you plan to vote by post, please register at www.rinkejopuslapis.lt by the specified date. Depending on the specifics of the country’s post office, these dates vary from one mission to another (the list is constantly being updated). After that, you will not be able to vote by post and will have to come to the representation.
